Digestive Enzymes Ultra is Pure Encapsulations’ comprehensive vegetarian enzyme blend — thirteen enzymes covering protein, carbohydrate, fat, fiber and dairy digestion (proteases, amylase, lipase, cellulase, lactase and companions), taken with meals. Ninety hypoallergenic capsules; a version with added Betaine HCl also exists in the Pure line. As a general-purpose enzyme formula it is exactly what most people picture when they search “digestive enzymes.”

Not all digestive support formulas do the same thing
“Digestive support” covers at least four distinct jobs: enzyme blends that help break down food chemically; pancreatic-enzyme support for heavier protein/fat digestion; stomach-acid (HCl) support for the acidity that starts protein digestion and mineral ionization; and broader digestive formulas that combine bile, enzymes and botanicals for liver-and-gallbladder-involved digestion. Different formulas target different parts of the digestive process — they are not interchangeable.

Digestive enzymes vs HCl: what’s the difference?
Enzymes and stomach acid do different work. HCl creates the acidic environment that begins protein digestion, activates pepsin and helps ionize minerals; enzymes then dismantle proteins, starches and fats further down the line. Someone with low stomach acid can take enzyme blends indefinitely and still miss the actual bottleneck — which is why HCL V-Plus exists as its own category of support. The best digestive formula depends on which part of digestion needs the help.
