Hair Analysis Controversy: Part II

Posted by Eileen Durfee on 21st Jan 2016

Hair analysis, a biopsy test that reveals the body's minerals and toxic metals with a hair sample, is not without its share of controversy.  A previous blog posting began to address some of this controversy, in particular - the accuracy and reliability of the test.  Another concern that often accompanies hair analysis is the way the test is interpreted.

We only recommend Analytical Research Laboratories (ARL) for processing hair analysis tests. Dr. Paul Eck, the founder of ARL, interpreted hair analysis by determining an individual's oxidation type and stage of stress.  This process focuses on minerals' ratios, rather than each separate level. Dr. William Albrecht, PhD, created a mineral wheel that represents the interactions of minerals. It was discovered that an abundance of information can be learned by studying the minerals relationships and how they correspond to each other.

The ratios and relationships of minerals as shown on a hair analysis can derive all kinds of information, including:

  • Organ and gland function
  • Mental and emotional tendencies
  • The body’s stress response
  • How best to nutritionally support the body

Mineral ratios can also help to identify many hair analysis patterns and trends that could not otherwise be recognized if only the individual ratios were studied. All of this information derived from ratios helps to make hair analysis such a great predictive and preventive mechanism.

Dr. Paul Eck also chose to focus on the ideal mineral ratios, rather than averages. This is because the optimal goal of a Nutritional Balancing program is to achieve health and wellness, not average functioning. Most people are already somewhat sick when they have their hair analysis done and to use the average numbers of sick clients to judge others would not be reasonable.

The approach of using ratios has been able to predict an individual's symptoms, as well as determine the necessary diet and supplements to correctly balance body chemistry. Some people do not understand how food and supplements can be recommended based on hair analysis. There are particular foods and nutrients that the body needs and can be most helpful depending on the metabolic type, stage of stress, and specific mineral deficiencies. This enables hair analysis to guide a proper supplement program for each person based on their hair analysis results.
